Running This Town

Yesterday Matt and I decided to run in the opposite direction from where we’d been running lately, towards Red Hook rather than Brooklyn Heights. Our 6-mile route went out to all the piers and the paths that surround the former Real World living quarters, Fairway, and IKEA. It was gusty, as it’s been for the past few days, and the IKEA sign that is probably visible from the moon hovered throughout, but we ran next to the choppy waters for a significant portion of the run on a clear evening while the sun was going down, and that alone made us feel part of something epic. The waterfront park at IKEA is actually really nice; we made mental notes to come back when it’s warmer to sunbathe. We also went out to the end of Columbia Street, where I’d never been before. There is a good bike path and lots of park benches facing … I’m not sure what exactly, Gowanas Bay and the backside of Bay Ridge? But there is evidently an Arizona Tea factory out there, too, which is home to about half a million stray cats. It would have been nice to have a more scenic route home, but there wasn’t much we could do. We slipped under the BQE and made a straight shot down Court Street to the grocery store.
