Favorite snack of the moment:

Dried plums (prunes, to the olds). I have a serious habit of OD-ing on food I like (there was a time in college when I ate so much greek yogurt with honey that now I can’t bring myself to make the combination), and these might be next on the list. I have a really, really bad sweet tooth, but eating Swedish Fish all day is not EXACTLY the best way to alleviate the cravings. Dried plums have a ton of fiber (both soluble and insoluble) so don’t overdo it. Seriously. But they are also really good for you (vitamin A! I don’t know what that means but it sounds GREAT) and they are low calorie.

When a labor shortage hit California in 1905, a farmer turned to 500 monkeys to harvest the prune plums. Organized into gangs of 50 with a human foreman, the monkeys picked the prune plums well but ate them all up! Today, machines do the work—without eating the fruit.
