I was going to write a longer post last night about this year’s marathon training but I got distracted and tired. Quick summary: running in New York is fun; working full time (so tired after work and go in too early for morning runs!) and living in New York (so much to do!) make training more difficult than during last year’s unemployment. Inconsistent training will probably prevent me from running as fast as I would like, but as long as I am not injured it should at least be better than last year.
The map above is yesterday’s run. Someone (not from New York) suggested “downtown Brooklyn!” when I asked where to run, so this is where I decided to go. The route past Flatbush was mostly made up as I ran, hoping if I pointed myself in the direction I needed to go the streets would take me there, and they did! I had run straight down Flushing Ave to get to both bridges to run across, but had never run around any of the neighborhoods over there. Physically I felt good on the run, I pretty much bring water on every run when the weather is hot, my mp3 player was actually working, and I ran places I had never been. Overall a fantastic way to spend a Thursday.
This weekend I plan to try to push the mileage and get my 20 miler in on Sunday. I am going to be down in Washington, DC though. Maybe I will be not lazy and write about running there compared to New York! Anyone have any tips for DC routes?
