Housekeeping!
So to clear up some of the confusion about who’s posting, I changed the main image for Running This Town to a pair of running shoes. When a post from the site shows up in your Dashboard, it should show the running shoes and then a smaller photo of the group member who did that specific post. There are generally three people other than me posting. And two reminders! You can ask us questions...

On My Routine
I nailed down a running routine this weekend, which I hope to stick to. It’s pretty easy because 1) I’m not training for anything in particular, presently; and 2) I have athleticism pity for myself because I smoke cigarettes. I’m going to run four days per week. On the first day (generally Monday) I run n units. On the second day I run n units. On the third day I run 0.8*n...

I met Miss Best this weekend! She knows Lukas, who contributes to this blog, and we had an important discussion about dealing with bodily functions while running. She just moved to near-ish my neighborhood so I hope to see her along the Columbia Street path sometime soon. And I did 4.5 miles today in the mist. It was actually kind of nice—I prefer being slightly chilly and damp to being...

As readers of my main Tumblr know, I suffered a self-inflicted knee-injury-by-coffee-table on Friday. For two days I couldn’t bend my left leg and it still hurts to walk down stairs; the other day I did some elliptical training and weights and it didn’t feel great. So last night when Sam was like, “Let’s go for a run,” I was like, “I don’t know, I think...

It is too hot in my office to focus so I am going to blog instead. First, congrats to Doree on the first race. Sucks Brightroom did not get your picture, but race photographers always manage to capture you looking terrible. Even when you see them ahead of time and try to not be making a funny face, they will get you mid-grimace and while your hands are at a strange looking position in your...

94monkeys: Congratulations! You have taken the worst picture of me ever in my life, including my driver’s permit when a shadow caused me to look like I had a two-toned mullet. You took a moment when I was actually proud of myself (crossing the finish line) and destroyed it forever. Please accept this punch in the face and no, I will not pay $13.99 for it. They didn’t get any photos of...

The First Race
I did it! I ran the Scotland 10K in 1:04:42, which was a 10:26 mile pace. There’s definitely room for improvement but I am so psyched that I ran the whole thing and that I felt good. It was great advice not to go out too fast, because it really is tempting to try to keep up with people from the outset, but I think if I had then I would’ve felt pretty tired by mile 3. As it was, with...
